A truck bomb killed 30 people and wounded about 90 in the northern town of Tuz Khurmato today.
Local police said 105 people were killed and some 250 were wounded in the blast, which destroyed shops and small houses nearby. However, senior police in Baghdad put the death toll at 30, with some 90 people wounded.
In east Baghdad, a suicide car bomber killed six people and wounded more than 20.
On the evening of July 6, a suicide car bomber killed 22 people and wounded 17 in a Kurdish village in Diyala Governorate.
The U.S. military, meanwhile, said eight of its soldiers were killed in the past two days. Six soldiers were killed by roadside bombs in and around Baghdad, while two Marines were killed in combat in Al-Anbar Governorate.
In southern Iraq, one British soldier was killed in Al-Basrah during an operation involving 1,000 British troops to flush out suspected militants.
Meanwhile, two more senators from U.S. President George W. Bush's Republican Party have joined critics of his Iraq policy. In interviews with "The Los Angeles Times," Lamar Alexander of Tennessee and Judd Gregg of New Hampshire said a new strategy is needed, but stopped short of supporting a time line for withdrawal.
They joined respected U.S. senators such as Pete Domenici of New Mexico, Chuck Hagel of Nebraska, and Richard Lugar of Indiana, who have all criticized Bush's conduct of the war.
