Don't Tweet, And We Won't Tell

The tweets stop here.

The other day we wrote about the holiday snapshots that Dmitry Rogozin, Russia's ambassador to NATO, had posted on Twitpics. (He's got some amazing shots from his safari in Kenya.)

So we were amused to see that @Rogozin had tweeted about our blog post:

Понравились мои фотки? Но марку телефона рекламировать не буду, не надейтесь!

or, in English:

You liked my photos? I'm not going to tell you what brand phone I'm using -- so don't hope for it!

While we were reading some of his recent tweets, we came across this nuanced take on Russia's policy toward homosexuals in the military, sparked by a tweet from @mkuplens about "Don't Ask, Don't Tell":

@mkuplens Gay isn’t a reliable soldier. Imagine: the foe's soldiers are all so hadsome! If our gays refuse to shoot them we'll lose the war.

About This Blog

Written by RFE/RL editors and correspondents, Transmission serves up news, comment, and the odd silly dictator story. While our primary concern is with foreign policy, Transmission is also a place for the ideas -- some serious, some irreverent -- that bubble up from our bureaus. The name recognizes RFE/RL's role as a surrogate broadcaster to places without free media. You can write us at transmission+rferl.org
