JALALABAD, Kyrgyzstan -- The number of HIV/AIDS patients in Kyrgyzstan's Jalalabad region has increased by 150 percent since 2006, RFE/RL's Kyrgyz Service reports.
Officials at the regional HIV/AIDS center told RFE/RL that 48 new patients have been registered in the region just this year.
A total of 269 local citizens are officially registered as HIV/AIDS patients in Jalalabad.
The majority of the patients contracted the disease intravenously using infected syringes.
