Dizzying 'Diamond' Bridge Opens In Georgia
- By RFE/RL
A dizzying bridge construction has been opened in a bid to attract tourists to a canyon west of Tbilisi.

1
This bridge over Georgia's Dashbashi Canyon was opened on June 14 by Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili.

2
The futuristic glass construction was built by Israeli-Georgian firm Kass Group, which has a history of producing children's fun parks and housing projects in and around Jerusalem.

The bridge features a central glass "diamond" suspended 280 meters above the floor of the canyon.

6
The span also features a kind of bicycle zipline that allows visitors to ride a cable across the canyon, as well as a massive rope swing.

7
A "diamond bar" inside the central structure means visitors can enjoy a drink as they take in the view -- or knock back a quick shot to calm their nerves.

8
Fireworks explode above the bridge during the opening ceremony.
Georgia has a history of building hypermodern structures, though some, such as a glassy parliament building in Kutaisi, have suffered from neglect in recent years.
