Iran's navy claims to have forced a U.S. submarine to surface as it entered the Persian Gulf in the latest report of an apparent confrontation between Iranian and U.S. forces in the Gulf. Iranian Navy Commander Shahram Irani told state television on April 20 that the U.S. vessel entered Iranian waters but "corrected its course after being warned." There was no immediate response from the U.S. military to Irani's remarks but the U.S. Navy said earlier this month that the Florida nuclear-powered, guided-missile submarine was operating in the Middle East.
