Police in Pakistan's biggest city, Karachi, fired tear gas and warning shots after some protesters threw stones and tried to cross barriers blocking access to the U.S. Consulate. The protesters on September 29 rallied against the killing of Hassan Nasrallah, chief of the Lebanese group Hezbollah, designated as a terrorist group by the United States. Police officers, protesters, and journalists were injured. Shi'ite organizations held the rally in Karachi and a parallel one in the capital, Islamabad. Demonstrators displayed portraits of Nasrallah but also figures of the Iranian regime: Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the late Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, and Qassem Soleimani, a commander killed in a U.S. drone strike in 2020.
