Moldovan Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici says he told Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev that Moldova's "European choice" was not directed against Russia.
Gaburici, who met with Medvedev on the sidelines of a Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) summit in Burabay, Kazakhstan, on May 29, said he also thanked Moscow for the "first steps" it has taken toward canceling a ban on Moldovan canned fruit and vegetable imports.
The embargo was imposed in July, shortly after Moldova signed an Association Agreement with the European Union that included a free-trade agreement.
Bilateral relations between Chisinau and Moscow hit a new low last year over Moldova's EU aspirations and Chisinau's attempts to block what it calls "Russian propaganda" by taking stations like Rossia 24 off the air and refusing entry to journalists from Russian state TV who flew to Moldova to report from Moldova's separatist Transdniester region and its autonomous Gagauz region, which is largely pro-Russian.
