Omani troops fired in the air to try to disperse a crowd demanding political reform near the northern port of Sohar, the country's main industrial center.
Sohar was the site of violent protests on February 27, when police opened fire on crowds of demonstrators and as many as six people were reported killed.
The protests in Oman, which has been ruled by Sultan Qaboos bin Said for four decades, follow a wave of pro-democracy uprisings across the Arab world.
On February 28, the protests spread to the capital of Muscat.
