A Russian Air Force MiG-29 fighter has crashed near Astrakhan, killing the pilot.
Air Force Commander-in-Chief Viktor Bondarev said July 27 that investigators are probing the cause of the crash in southern Russia.
He said that "according to tentative reports, the crash was caused by the failure of aviation equipment."
Officials told Russian media that the plane fell 30 km south of the Privolzhsky airport in the Astrakhan region in an area where there were no homes
There are no reports of casualties other than the pilot in the crash.
