Russia's Interior Ministry has opened a criminal investigation against Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, ex-President Petro Poroshenko, and other government officials and placed them on its wanted list, Russian state media reported on May 4. The specific charges were not identified. Zelenskiy, who has led his country through Russia's full-scale invasion that began in February 2022, and Poroshenko join a long list of foreign officials placed under various criminal warrants, including many others from Ukraine and leaders from Central and Eastern Europe. Poroshenko was president from 2014-19 and said he plans to run again. In March 2023, the International Criminal Court in The Hague issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin on charges related to the deportation of Ukrainian children to Russia -- a war crime under international treaty.
