Ukraine's opposition parties are holding a rally in Kyiv to protest alleged rigging of the results from last month's parliamentary elections.

More than a thousand opposition supporters demonstrated on November 5 in front of the Central Election Commission headquarters.

Opposition parties -- including the Batkivshchyna (Fatherland) party of jailed former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko and the Udar (Punch) party of former world boxing champion Vitali Klitschko -- are threatening to boycott the newly elected parliament.

With nearly all the votes counted, President Viktor Yanukovych's ruling Party of Regions and its allies appear to have retained a majority of more than 225 seats in the 450-seat parliament.

The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe called the election a step backward in Ukraine's democracy.

Based on reporting by UNIAN, Interfax, AP, and Reuters

RFE/RL has been declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government.
