Reports in the United States say an Uzbek man plans to plead guilty in the southern state of Alabama to charges of threatening to kill President Barack Obama and illegally possessing weapons, including a fully automatic M15 machine gun and a grenade.
The “Birmingham News” reports that a federal judge on January 18 set a February 10 court hearing for Ulugbek Kodirov to formally enter his guilty plea.
His lawyer, Lance Bell, confirmed to the newspaper that Kodirov plans to plead guilty.
The newspaper report quotes court documents as saying that Kodirov bought the M15 rifle from undercover U.S. law-enforcement agents before his arrest in Alabama in July.
Kodirov initially pleaded not guilty to the charges.
He is charged with threatening the life of the U.S. president, with being an illegal alien in the United States in possession of a firearm, and unlawfully possessing a fully automatic weapon.
