2 August 2004 -- The International Committee of the Red Cross has suspended its work in Russia for one day to highlight the organization's concern for one of its workers who was kidnapped in Chechnya.
The spokeswoman for the ICRC in Moscow, Anastasia Isyuk, said her organization is seeking information about the fate of employee Usman Saidaliyev, kidnapped from his home in the village of Novii Yengenoi one year ago.
There has been no contact with his abductors and no demands made for Saidaliyev's release.
The ICRC has appealed to Russian authorities many times for information about Saidaliyev, Isyuk said.
It was the second incident during the last two years in which ICRC employees have been taken hostage.
Two ICRC truck drivers were kidnapped in Grozny in 2002 but were released three days later.
