11 February 2005 -- Troops from Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) have killed an armed man who they surrounded in a residential area of the Ingush city of Nazran.
The Interior Ministry in the Russian North Caucasus republic said the armed 23-year-old man rejected calls to surrender and fired on FSB troops who surrounded the building in which he took refuge.
The man was said to be a resident of Ingushetia who had participated in an attack on law-enforcement officers in June last year.
The Ingushstian Interior Ministry said one FSB officer was killed and one wounded. The ministry also said investigators were on the scene and firefighters were working to put out a fire in the building where the armed man was located.
