6 April 2005 -- A prosecutor in Chechnya says a man detained in connection with the deaths of six Red Cross workers in 1996 has confessed to the apparently unrelated murders of four foreigners in 1998.
Authorities detained Adam Dzhabailov on 4 April in a security sweep in connection with the Red Cross killings in Chechnya.
Today, acting Prosecutor-General Vladimir Kravchenko said Dzhabrailov has confessed to kidnapping and murdering four telecommunications engineers: three Britons and a New Zealander.
The engineers were beheaded after negotiations over ransom failed.
Russian state television showed the suspect in handcuffs being marched by two masked and uniformed men in a detention center. He then appeared before the camera to confess his involvement in the engineers' murder.
