Islamic Group Takes Credit For Daghestan Bombings

17 April 2005 -- A little-known Islamic group calling itself Shariat has claimed responsibility for the bombings in the southern Russian republic of Daghestan last week that wounded six people.
The group posted a statement on an Internet website linked to Chechen separatists saying members of Shariat were responsible for the bombings of the prosecutor's office in the Daghestani capital Makhachkala.

The statement said the bombings were carried out to halt police operations against what the group called "the lawful rulers of Daghestan."

The group also warned that more attacks would follow.

The claim by Shariat could not be immediately verified.
