28 September 2005 -- After a four-day debate, Montenegro's parliament today backed President Filip Vujanovic's decision to pay war damages to neighboring Croatia.
Vujanovic announced the decision in June, infuriating the opposition which demanded the president resign. Critics claimed that paying reparations to Croatia would amount to an admission that Montenegro was responsible for war crimes committed near the Croatian resort of Dubrovnik in 1991.
The Yugoslav army -- composed mostly of Serbs and Montenegrins -- bombed Dubrovnik while its troops looted the property in the neighboring Konavle region.
