31 October 2005 -- Poland's prime minister-designate, Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz, says he plans to present a minority government to be sworn in today.
But in a statement broadcast on Polish television, he also said his conservative Law and Justice party was prepared to continue talks aimed at forming a coalition with the pro-business Civic Platform.
Between them, the two parties won a majority in last month's parliamentary elections on a promise to form a center-right coalition government. But negotiations ran into difficulties last week over the issues of power sharing and economic policy.
