Ukraine's Yushchenko Introduces Prosecutors To New Boss

Victor Yushchenko (epa) 8 November 2005 -- Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko today said that top prosecutors in the country recently have been more interested in helping politicians avoid prosecution than investigating crime.
Yushchenko made his remarks in Kyiv while introducing prosecutors to their new boss, Prosecutor-General Oleksandr Medvedko.

Yushchenko told Medvedko to avoid politics and focus on law.

Meanwhile, Ukraine's former Prosecutor-General Svyatoslav Piskun was due in court today to challenge his dismissal. Yushchenko sacked him last month. Piskun claims he was dismissed because he was investigating one of Yushchenko's allies and is asking the court to reinstate him.
