Uzbekistan To Sign Energy Deal With Foreign Investors

(RFE/RL) 8 December 2005 -- Uzbekistan will in 2006 sign a production-sharing agreement with an international consortium to develop its oil and gas sector.
Agence France Presse quotes Umidjon Israilov, head of the foreign investment department at Uzbekneftegaz, Uzbekistan's state-run energy company, as saying that the deal is worth $280 million.

Israilov said the deal is to be signed in March 2006.

Uzbekneftgaz, Russia's LUKoil, the China National Petroleum Corporation, and Malaysian and South Korean firms signed a consortium agreement earlier this year. The consortium is to set up exploration projects in Uzbekistan's western Ustyrt region.
