Bishkek, 10 December 2005 (RFE/RL) -- Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiev today replaced the acting governor of Kyrgyzstan's southern Osh region.
Prime Minister Feliks Kulov made the announcement at a meeting with local officials in the city of Osh: "The president [Kurmanbek Bakiev] asked me to express on his behalf, on behalf of the government, great gratitude to Anvar Artykovich [Artykov] and to thank him for his great job done during the short time [he was acting governor] in the making of the [Osh] region."
Kulov then said Bakiev would meet Artykov on 12 December and discuss his appointment to another government position.
Kulov then announced that Bakiev has appointed Adam Zakirov, vice rector of the Academy of Management, as the new acting governor of the Osh region.
