14 December 2005 -- Amnesty International today said that the European Union's response to allegations of secret jails operated by U.S. intelligence services in European nations has been unsatisfactory.
Amnesty released a statement saying that the EU's current counter-terrorism strategies neglect fundamental human rights.
Amnesty says that the EU has the moral, legal, and political obligation to ensure that its members are not involved in abductions and torture.
Earlier on 14 December, the European Parliament called for a special probe into the allegations that some of its member states participated in alleged transfers of terrorism suspects abducted by U.S. agents.
