Chief UN Prosecutor To Criticize Serbia At Security Council

Carla Del Ponte (file photo) (AFP) 15 December 2005 -- Chief UN prosecutor Carla Del Ponte is expected to criticize Serbia and Montenegro's lack of cooperation with The Hague tribunal when she gives her annual report to the Security Council today.

The arrest last week of fugitive Croatian General Ante Gotovina has raised the pressure on Serbia to catch Bosnian Serb wartime leader Radovan Karadzic and his military chief, Ratko Mladic. Both men have been charged with genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes for their role in the 1992-95 Bosnian war.

Belgrade last week produced seven pages of military files that were missing from the copy handed over earlier to Del Ponte.

But Del Ponte's adviser, Anton Nikiforov, told journalists in The Hague that the tribunal was still "not satisfied" with the documents from Belgrade.

However, Nikiforov said Carla Del Ponte will give a very good and very positive report on Croatia.
