Suicide Bomber Kills Five Police In Iraq

2 January 2006 -- A suicide bomber rammed his explosives-packed car into a bus carrying Iraqi police recruits near the central town of Ba'qubah today, killing himself and at least five of the policemen.

The attack took place as the recruits were headed to the Kurdish-administered northern region for training.

The area around Ba'qubah, 65 kilometers northeast of Baghdad, is a hotbed of insurgent activity.

Insurgents stormed a police checkpoint with rocket-propelled grenades and mortars near Ba'qubah a week ago, killing five policemen and wounding four.
