Deep Freeze Claims More Lives In Europe

Wolves at the Moscow zoo howling in the icy weather (epa) 25 January 2006 -- Bitter cold weather continues to claim lives in Europe.
Ukrainian officials say 66 people have died there since Arctic weather settled on the country last week.

In Romania, the number of deaths attributed to the cold has reached 27. In Poland 14 people have died in the past couple of days.

In Russia, officials say it's still very cold there, but temperatures are moderating from earlier lows of minus 30 degrees Celsius.

The intense cold spell -- which in some places has sent temperatures to their lowest mark in decades -- has covered a huge stretch of the European continent, from the Baltic states in the north to Greece and Turkey in the south.
