BISHKEK, March 2, 2006 (RFE/RL) -- The younger brother of Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiev -- Janysh Bakiev -- has been appointed as the National Security Service's new first deputy chairman.
The appointment was made by Kyrgyz Prime Minister Felix Kulov following a decree after president Bakiev issued a decree.
Kulov made clear his own support for the appointment, saying that he himself had insisted on Janysh Bakiev's promotion to the post.
Janysh Bakiev, a career policeman, has spent years serving in various posts in Kyrgyzstan's law-enforcement agencies.
