Kyrgyz President's Brother Appointed To High Security Post

Kyrgyz President Bakiev (file photo) (AFP) BISHKEK, March 2, 2006 (RFE/RL) -- The younger brother of Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiev -- Janysh Bakiev -- has been appointed as the National Security Service's new first deputy chairman.

The appointment was made by Kyrgyz Prime Minister Felix Kulov following a decree after president Bakiev issued a decree.


Kulov made clear his own support for the appointment, saying that he himself had insisted on Janysh Bakiev's promotion to the post.


Janysh Bakiev, a career policeman, has spent years serving in various posts in Kyrgyzstan's law-enforcement agencies.
