Al-Qaeda-Linked Group Claims Killing Of Iraqi Journalist

An Iraqi policeman stands guard at a checkpoint in Baghdad (file photo) (epa) March 12, 2006 -- An Iraqi militant group affiliated with Al-Qaeda today claimed responsibility for the killing of a senior editor at Iraqi state television.

The military wing of the Mujahedin Council, in a message posted on the Internet, said it killed journalist Amjad Hamid


The group said Hamid's killing was justified because he worked for a television station the group called a "mouthpiece of the apostate government."


Hamid, a father of three, had just left his house in central Baghdad on March 11 when he was shot in the head and killed.
