Belarusian Oppositionist To Address European Parliament

Alyaksandr Milinkevich (file photo) (epa) April 3, 2006 -- Belarusian opposition leader Alyaksandr Milinkevich is to address the European Parliament this week in a debate on the outcome of last month's disputed presidential elections.
Milinkevich came a distant second to Alyaksandr Lukashenka, who won a third term with 83 percent of the vote.

the opposition claims the vote was rigged, a charge supported by the European Union and the United States. The EU is to decide on April 10 on "restrictive measures" against those responsible for election violations.

Milinkevich was in Vienna today for talks with Chancellor Wolfgang Schuessel of Austria, which currently holds the rotating EU presidency.
