Bermet Akaeva at an April 24 presentation of her new book (RFE/RL)
BISHKEK, April 25, 2006 (RFE/RL) -- The eldest daughter of Kyrgyzstan's former president says she was questioned today in connection with criminal probes against her father and her family.
Bermet Akaeva, Askar Akaev's daughter, said she was released after more than three hours of questioning at the National Security Service's headquarters in the capital, Bishkek.
Akaeva said she refused to answer questions about her immediate family, adding "I don't understand what I have to do with these cases."
Akaeva is the only member of her family to have returned to Kyrgyzstan since Askar Akaev was ousted in March 2005. She lost her parliamentary seat last year and was deprived of legal immunity.
