May 16, 2006 -- The U.S. Defense Department has released a list of what it says are all the detainees who have been held by the U.S. military at its prison for terrorist suspects at the Guantanamo Bay naval base on Cuba.
The new list has 759 names. The names of some 200 of these had not been previously disclosed by the Pentagon.
The Pentagon says its list includes all detainees who have been held by the U.S. military at Guantanamo Bay since the prison facility was opened more than four years ago.
Reports say the list does not include any of the suspected high-ranking Al-Qaeda figures that have been captured by the United States. The whereabouts of these suspects remains unknown.
The new list was released following a lawsuit filed against the U.S. Defense Department by The Associated Press news agency.
