June 7, 2006 -- China today said it is "strongly dissatisfied" with recent U.S. criticism of its crushing of pro-democracy protests on Tiananmen Square in 1989.
China's Foreign Ministry said the criticism violates norms guiding international relations, and "wantonly interferes" in China's internal affairs.
The United States on June 4 urged China to provide "a full account of the thousands who were killed, detained, or went missing, and of the government's role in the [Tiananmen Square] massacre."
