Viktor Yanukovych, the once and future prime minister of Ukraine? (file photo) (RFE/RL) July 29, 2006 -- Closed-door talks between Ukraine's new pro-Russian coalition and the president's party ended early on July 29 without yielding any results.

Ukrainian President Victor Yushchenko's Our Ukraine party is opposed to the idea of Viktor Yanukovych, the head of the pro-Russian Party of Regions, serving as prime minister.

If an agreement is not reached by August 2, the president has the right to dissolve parliament and call new parliamentary elections.
