Sakhalin Oil To Be Piped To Asia This Month

The base of an oil-and-gas platform being pulled into position for the Sakhalin II project (file photo) (ITAR-TASS) September 11, 2006 -- Exxon-Mobil's Russian Sakhalin-1 subsidiary said today that it will begin pumping oil to Asian markets later this month.

The announcement follows the completion of a 225-kilometer pipeline linking the Russian mainland to the vast oil and gas project off the coast of Sakhalin in Russia's far east.


The project began extracting oil in October 2005 and expects to be producing 250,000 barrels per day by the end of this year.
