Murdered Russian Central Banker Buried

Andrei Kozlov is laid to rest (ITAR-TASS) September 16, 2006 -- Prominent politicians and bankers were among the more than 1,000 mourners who today attended the funeral of Andrei Kozlov, the first deputy chairman of Russia's Central Bank assassinated on September 13.

Investigators said Kozlov's murder was most probably a contract hit.


Kozlov led a campaign against money-laundering in the banking system.


Following his murder, President Vladimir Putin called for enhanced controls over the financial system.
