Russia Backs Diplomacy In Iran Nuclear Crisis

October 3, 2006 -- The head of Russia's Security Council, Igor Ivanov, said today efforts to find a diplomatic solution to the standoff over Iran's nuclear program had Moscow's full backing.

Ivanov met today in Tehran with Ali Larijani, Iran's top nuclear negotiator. Russia has backed Western calls for Tehran to suspend uranium enrichment, but has opposed possible sanctions.
