October 23, 2006 -- Two gunmen today opened fire on police officers checking identity documents in the restive southern Russian region of Daghestan, killing one and wounding another.
The regional Interior Ministry says the attack occurred late on October 22 in the Daghestani capital, Makhachkala.
The assailants escaped.
