October 26, 2006 -- U.S. President George W. Bush has expressed dissatisfaction with developments in the Iraq war, citing the heavy casualties suffered by both Iraqis and Americans.
"I know many Americans are not satisfied with the situation in Iraq," he said. "I'm not satisfied either."
Speaking at a White House press conference on October 25, Bush insisted the war in Iraq will be won.
At least 90 U.S. soldiers have been killed in Iraq in October alone, prompting calls in the United States for a timetable for their withdrawal.
In the latest announcement, the U.S. military said today said that five more U.S. soldiers have been killed in fighting in Iraq. The military said the four Marines and one navy serviceman were killed in western Al-Anbar Governorate on October 25. It wasn't clear if the five were killed in the same clash.
In Iraq, meanwhile, Iraqi and U.S. forces have clashed with militia in the Baghdad district of Al-Sadr City. The Interior Ministry said at least four people were killed and 20 wounded. Al-Sadr City is a stronghold of the Imam Al-Mahdi Army of radical cleric Muqtada al-Sadr.
