November 10, 2006 -- The U.S. State Department says it does not expect any major changes in U.S. policies toward North Korea, Iran, and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict following this week's elections that shifted control of the U.S. Congress to the opposition Democratic Party.
State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said officials believe the government has adopted the "right approaches" to deal with these issues, and no major changes are expected with the Democrats in charge of the legislature.
The Democrats will have majorities in both houses of Congress when the new session convenes in January.
