Russia To Lift Ban On Moldovan Wine

Wine is Moldova's key export and is celebrated with its own 'national day,' on October 8 (ITAR-TASS) November 28, 2006 -- Russian news agencies are reporting that Russia will lift its ban on the import of Moldovan farm goods, mainly wine.

Agencies quote Russian President Vladimir Putin, speaking today after talks with his Moldovan counterpart Vladimir Voronin in Minsk, as saying the two countries agreed on the resumption of shipments of meat and wine.

Russia cited health reasons for banning wine imports from both Moldova and Georgia, but both countries labeled the move as political.
