Ukrainian Parliament Refuses To Sack Security Chief

(RFE/RL) December 14, 2006 -- Ukraine's parliament today voted not to dismiss the head of the country's security service, Ihor Dryzhchany.

The motion to dismiss Dryzhchany was submitted to parliament by President Viktor Yushchenko, who is locked in a struggle for influence with the legislature.

Earlier this month, parliament sacked the foreign minister, a Yushchenko ally, but the president issued a decree overturning the dismissal.
