Tajik State Natural-Gas Distributor Restricts Supplies

(RFE/RL) January 31, 2007 -- Tajikistan's state natural-gas distributor has limited supplies to industrial and residential consumers due to mounting debts.

Tajikgaz Deputy Director Shavkat Shoimov today said households will get gas for up to six hours a day until a solution is found.

He said the company received payments for only 40 percent of the gas supplied to consumers so far this year.

Tajikistan owes Uzbekistan, which has nearly doubled the price of natural gas it sells to the country, more than $3 million.
