NATO says the targeted Taliban leader is linked to an uprising in the town of Musa Qala, which the Taliban overran earlier this month, and to an attack on February 13 against a hydroelectric dam in nearby Kajaki.
The Afghan Defense Ministry says 15 Taliban were killed at Kajaki, and another 10 in another engagement in the adjoining Gerishk district.
NATO didn't say how many people were killed in today's air strike but locals say the dead included Taliban fighters and civilians.
