Ukrainian Parliament Rejects Pro-Western Foreign Minister

Volodymyr Ohryzko (file photo) (ITAR-TASS) March 20, 2007 -- Ukraine's parliament today rejected President Viktor Yushchenko's nominee for the post of foreign minister.

This was Yushchenko's second attempt to secure approval for the candidacy of Volodymyr Ohryzko, a career diplomat.

The pro-Western president has long been at odds with parliament and with Moscow-backed Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych.

The previous foreign minister, Borys Tarasyuk, was forced out of office under pressure from parliament.
