Former chess champion Kasparov on April 21 accused police who beat and detained protesters of "brutality and cruelty."

Kasparov met the same day with prosecutors in connection with a lawmaker's demand for an inquiry into whether police acted illegally in detaining him during a protest in Moscow on April 14.
