Uzbekistan Reverses Ruling On Activist

(RFE/RL) April 23, 2007 -- The sole representative for Human Rights Watch (HRW) in Uzbekistan says officials have reversed their decision to expel her from the country.

Andrea Berg told AP that her work accreditation has been extended for three months.

Last week, Berg reported that she had been denied accreditation, which would have forced her to leave Uzbekistan. HRW says Uzbek authorities have been tightening restrictions on nongovernmental groups, and have jailed at least 15 human rights activists on politically motivated charges in the past two years.
