In a statement, the OSCE said a group of men identifying themselves as South Ossetian police fired at a Joint Peacekeeping Forces team that included OSCE military monitors.

The incident occurred on May 7 after monitors discovered a weapons cache.

The OSCE's chairman in office, Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos, called the incident "serious and unacceptable."
