Russian Orthodox Church Abroad Leader In Moscow For Unification

Metropolitan Lavr with Russian President Vladimir Putin in 2004 (ITAR-TASS) May 15, 2007 -- Metropolitan Lavr, the head of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad, has arrived in Moscow ahead of his church's unification with the main branch of the church.

The Russian Orthodox Church Abroad, which is based in New York, split with the main branch of the Russian Orthodox Church after the 1917 Bolshevik Revolution.


A unification ceremony is scheduled for May 17 at the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow.
