July 4, 2007 -- Estonian President Toomas Hendrik Ilves today paid tribute to two Estonian soldiers killed in southern Afghanistan in June.
Twenty-four-year-old Kalle Torn and 33-year-old Jako Karuks were killed in a rocket attack in Helmand Province, becoming the first fatalities in the 105-strong Estonian contingent serving in the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force.
Speaking at a funeral ceremony at a military base in northern Estonia, Ilves said he was proud of the soldiers and grateful for their service.
