Iraqi Governor, Police Chief Killed By Roadside Bomb

August 11, 2007 -- The governor and police chief of Iraq's southern Al-Qadisiyah Governorate have been killed by a roadside bomb.

Iraqi officials say the blast struck a convoy and killed the governor, Khaili Jalil Hamza, and the police chief, Major General Khalid Hassan, in the town of Ajaf today.

A driver and a bodyguard were also killed.

The convoy was heading to the provincial capital Al-Diwaniyah, which has been the scene of clashes pitting U.S. and Iraqi forces against Shi'ite militias.
