Almaty, 4 December 1996 (RFE/RL) - An official with Kazakhstan's Transport Ministry says some of its employees will move to the country's future capital city later this month.
Kanay Iliyasov told RFE/RL today that 18 Transport Ministry staff members will move to Aqmola City in the country's north on December 18. Iliyasov said the entire ministry should be relocated by the middle of next year.
The exact date when Aqmola City is to replace Almaty as the country's capital has not yet been set. But government ministries, parliament and the president are scheduled to relocate next year.
Meanwhile, the press secretary at the Kazakh Ministry of Agriculture, Alexander Korablin, told RFE/RL that he could not specify the date of his ministry's move to the future capital. Korablin said that because of financial constraints, it was not likely to take place this month as had been indicated in some reports.
